In his gooseberry article in this months Gardeners' World magazine, (p76) Monty states, "I'm currently moving and planting gooseberries"

I daresay he means he is rearranging his soft fruit requirements at home, but at first glance I thought he meant "I'm moving house and like any sensible garden fanatic, turning my attention to the garden first and getting some soft fruit in".

I momentarily thought he had sold his soul and garden to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã in exchange for a Greenacre #2!

Next week he'll be harvesting his rhubarb and putting manure on it.

Good luck to him. I've been wanting to move and spread out some blackcurrants but we've had snow since Nov 25th followed by frozen ground with or without the blanket of snow and now it's warm enough but completely sodden thanks to torrential rain on saturated ground.

We usually get most of our snow and serious freezing in Jan and Feb and sometimes through March so even if it stays warme eniough to move them by the weekend it'll be a gamble for their ability to grow new roots in time for the flowers and fruits to do well..

Hi Obelixx, last time I wanted to move blackcurrants I was faced with the same awful climatic comditions, so I cut hard wood cuttings and stuffed them into the soil where I wanted new bushes and they all took! Still got blackcurrants 2008 in freezer.

Hi Crouchee. That's what I did a couple of years ago and they all grew and now need more space, hence the need to move them. I shall take cuttings anyway to be safe. We have so much rain at the mo that our paddock across the road is now a sizeable lake and two swans have arrived. That's a first for us in 18 years.
