Judging by the somewhat nasal quality of Don's voice - he'd not be the top of my list for scent detection!
I can't speak for modern varieties but the Spencer Sweet Peas I grew to National Standard thirty years ago were some of the most heavily scented flowers on earth!
You're not the first to question his 'smell' perception, Alan.
Having said that, our sense of smell is well known to be a very subjective.
I can only reiterate what I said previously, he IS talking twaddle.
If there is a sweetpea without much perfume I would really like to know what the variety is called. I suffer from asthma and the scent of some flowers, particularly sweetpeas upsets me.I adore the flowers so if anyone can help, please do!
