This has got to be the worst decision ever made by Ö÷²¥´óÐã management. I now fear for the future of the corporation in the face of such poor judgement and complete ignorance of the feelings and sentiments of the viewing public.

Not only is the decision wrong but the manner in which the "fait accompli" has been presented to viewers in nothing short of chilling.

We want Toby and Alys back on Gardeners World. They had moved the programme forward into the 21st Century. I fear we are now firmly back in the 20th.

Oh and one final thought, good job you are are not a woman Monty, you wouldn't have had a chance of getting back on the programme.

I almost totally disagree . we love Monty Don , very happy to have him back ,( and i don't get the women bit)
Monty is clear, inspiring , and gives me hope . i like Jo swift a lot , and Rachel , so for us YES ,good Ö÷²¥´óÐã decisions.
i agree about Alys i liked her and the way she does things , (has she gone for ever ? )
she had her own program - cant remember exactly when - maybe it wasnt Ö÷²¥´óÐã - it was very good , imaginative and practical , hens and crowded veg , and cooking too,i liked how it was done - in fact even better than gardeners world , and i could relate to it happily as it was about a little garden , more like mine - i agree monty is a bit grand , but still he cheers us- no chilling here , but gratitude to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

I'm not sure I agree with the 'woman' issue, but I certainly felt put-out when I heard that Monty was coming back, and Toby and Alys were being unceremoniously turfed out! As a dedicated viewer to Gardener's World and a subscriber to the magazine, I felt that somehow, I should have some say.

Monty's nice enough, but unfortunately, for me, he adds a rather 'distant' dimension to the programme. I loved the genuine friendliness of Toby Buckland, and it not being taken for granted that we are ALL very experienced gardeners. As a relative novice, I felt I learnt something new every week with the old team. I don't feel that I learnt anything from the first programme of the new series.

Thank goodness they kept the friendly, down to earth Carol klein and Joe swift. I'll stick with the programme as I love gardening, but I'm not impressed with the new look. I hope Toby and Alys are given some shows of their own somewhere.

It was a bad decision by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã to drop Toby Buckland, he was a breath of fresh air - now we are back to the old timers again and the same old boring stuff. No only that - why are the Ö÷²¥´óÐã paying an enormous amount to broadcast from Monty Don's home??? As a licence payer I see no reason why they are pandering to this chap - he is no better than anyone else and surely he has enough money by now. I am absolutely furious.

Crikey, we gardeners are a two faced fickle lot!

Scroll back to the postings of the summer of 2009 and later.....almost every thread was slating Toby at every turn....now; all of a sudden he's placed on a pedestal.

I don't know what influenced the beeb to ditch Toby in favour of Monty, but if they took any notice of the comments being posted here, I don't think anyone has any reason to complain.

Look Monty is back at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã because the moaning old farts on here want to believe its still 1952....

Channel 4 should have grabbed Toby and Alys and gave them a garden program together..

Carol should be GW front person and Joe "I have a veg box deliverd weekly" Swift should have been dumped along with his phoney allotment project.

Monty next week will be showing us how not to spray DDT next....

Not a lot of knowledge of Monty Don's gardeing ethos then! All the gardeners I know are delighted that the simplistic patronising tone of Toby Buckland will not be heard on GW, certainly in this area he drove viewers away in hordes. I agree that Joe Swift should be barred from his allotment nonsense and I found the conceit of him and Rachel de Thame "advising" an obvious expert poor but this is early days. Welcome back Monty.

It's not a scandal, it's a relief. I've seen TB on other gardening programmes and he has always been slapdash. That first bed he did at Berryfields was awful and the subsequent move to Greenacres was badly managed and planned with too many tricks and not enough substance.

Gardening is not a 30 minute activity unless all you want to do is mow a lawn and do a bit of weeding. Creating something beautiful and pleasurable, whether big or small, requires far more time and commitment and especially preparation even in low maintenance gardens.

I suspect, and hope, that the success of Alys' own vegetable series will mean she'll get another one.

I enjoyed Carol's visit to that beautiful winter garden but hope we'll get some of her doing hands on gardening, perhaps showing how to create a smaller version of what we've just seen and especially reminders about propagation - when and how to take cuttings and divisions and so on as she is such an expert.

I'm not especially pleased that Joe is still with us and found the prospect of him helping a gardener with clearly more experience and knowledge most amusing. The concept of him and Rachael helping in gardens is a good one but I don't see why they started with a yellow book gardener who just needed labour. It should be concentrated on oridnary gardeners who need problems solved, like most of us.

I did enjoy the quiet pace of this new GW and even the rather self conscious refrences to the low cost of most of his trees and hedges. If nothing else it illustrates that gardens take time to develop and can be done on a low budget with care and foresight applied. However, I'm not sure how relevant it was to show pruning on old apples - how many new builds and suburban gardens have those? Nor the pruning of an uncommon rose. It would have been more relevant to show a normal, repeat flowering shrub rose that the majority of gardeners have.

On current form, this new GW has little to offer beginners. Let's hope it goes up a gear for them as the season progresses.

The problem as I see it is that dear old Monty gets ill again or decides that he as had enough we all end up back at square one again.

Greenacres should have been kept and if they didn't want Toby to front the show then Monty should have been made to do the show from there if not then find somebody who would, last time I looked Monty is being employed by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã not the other way round.

Personaly I think Monty's return has more to do with spin-offs rather than spinach, I cant see it lasting two series with him.....

At this point it is probably time for the bbc to split the GW budget and produce two shows. One for the oldies who cannot face change, they can have all the old presenters in cardboard cutout form moving round 300 acres, that will keep them happy. Then we can have a new show, with presenters that understand that the average uk garden is 0.02 acre, and do things to reflect that, then maybe we will get something watchable that helps people to learn about the subject.

I am very much in agreement.
I was looking forward to the new season, but will not be tuning in to the current format. After Alan left, I could never warm to MDs style of gardening and stopped watching, only to resume when Toby and Alys were fronting the show. Now once more I shall be turning off the telly on a Friday night instead of enjoying a little vicarious gardening pleasure, for not only has MD returned, but also Rachel de Thame. I feel alienated by these people whose rarefied attitudes offer nothing that applies to my own interest or style of gardening.

I c9uldn't disagree more. Thank goodness, thank goodness, that Monty Don has returned to lead the programme and the grownups are back in charge instead of the 'Blue Peter' version of the programme that operated last year. The pace, content and even music are much, much better. Well done Ö÷²¥´óÐã! They've finally made a right decision about the programme. I had stopped watching but have returned to the programme as have many others I know. This should be a lesson for other programmes too.

Perfect solution. Gardening has moved on, its time the Ö÷²¥´óÐã realised this. I watched GW on Friday and honestly thought they were showing a repeat from 10 years ago. I was sunned to find it was a new series. Boring and out of touch.
