I was unsettled whilst watching my favourite end of the week programme, GW this evening. We observed the RHS, of all organisations, endorsing a chemical fertiliser when they are unaware of the contents (e.g., Ingredient 1, 2 and 3) they are putting into the soil or the mid to long term effects this may have. Their enthusiastic use of unknown ingredients and encouragement to other gardeners was a cause for much concern. We expect more professionalism and greater ecological stewardship from the RHS and a more challenge of such practices by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

I have grown my own fruit and veg for years and never used a chemical - yes, sometimes you lose things - ie they get eaten or die but man did once farm, harvest and survive without chemicals ...

I think this could possibly be a wind up as it was 1st April. Lets hope so.

Hello 2 Jays - I thought that too! However, if it wasn't, it could perhaps be something to do with somebody somewhere persuading the RHS to do some trialling of a Top Secret New Plant Growth Additive and doesn't want anyone else to get their hands on the recipe before they patent it...... and I don't believe that either. Cheers! Ma.

The RHS have been using compost tea since at least 2008, it is a mix containing humic acids and compounds found in compost and is not a chemical product - except in the way that all substances are in reality composed of chemicals and are only available to plants when they have broken down to that degree and become NPK etc - assisted by soil bacteria and microorganisms.
If you google rhs compost tea you can read some articles about it.

I was a bit alarmed that they were using something that included pots of "ingredient 3". I like to know exactly what I am using.
