Some lovely planting detail in most of the gardens (as is to be expected) but, no 'real' gardens that most 'real' gardeners like to see. Concrete and steel or lectures about sustainability ? No thank you!

Aye, and the 'hit parade' is terrible too! Whatever happened to tunes you could whistle?

Chelsea is the Haute Couture of gardening. The garden designs are done in intricate detail at great expense and are not meant to be for every day wear. However their influences will filter down. The smaller gardens show what a litle imagination can do in a tight space.

I was struck by the lack of lawns this year and didn't miss them one bit. Obviously if you have children they're useful for playing on but for those who don't and hate the drudgery of lawn mowing there were plenty of ideas for other surfaces between planting schemes and not all expensive.

Many of the plants used in the show gardens were ordinary and easily available and could be copied or adapted by most gardeners. Every household in Britain could attach an insect hotel to one if its walls to shelter insects which pollinate our plants and crops.

Lots of ideas and only a little perspex, glass and steel . i'm surprised nobody's had a go at the turquoise plastic carpet in one of the Chic gardens. I thought it was ghastly.
