have just watched Friday's (29th) 6o mins GW...does anyone else find 60 mins more interseting and more absorbing than cramming 30 mins with short, sharp topics? More 60 minute programmes please....far more inspirationa!!!!!l

Even as an 'old hand' I would love a 60 minute programme. Even more, I would love the Ö÷²¥´óÐã to have a designated Sports Channel so that GW is not taken off at the slightest whim: sports programmes should fit in round existing and long established programmes such as GW as there are probably more people with an interest in gardening than in sport. Having said that, the GW presenters work quite long hours; Monty was starting at 0730 filming for Tatton. They were there four days, and what did we get, just a bare hour over two evenings, not showing a lot.
The 'soaps' which I don't watch, are never taken off to accommodate sport. Heaven help us next year when it is the Olympics. Maybe even the 'soaps' will be taken off!

Yes, I do think that the 60-minute programs have been more watchable.

It's more of a program that becomes worth sitting down to watch, rather than a program that's optional.

Having a week-off (as there will be next week too) was not that bad. I'd rather have fewer good programs that are worth watching, than more frequent superficial ones.

The longer programs have been a good mix of very basic techniques (the strawberry feature was very clear and concise); authoritative contributions from Wisley-people; to quality aspirational gardens, and talking about some of the ideas behind them.

And the whole thing has been put together with a consistent relaxed feel.

Monty and Carol make a good pair - not together - there isn't room for both of them in the same garden - but as separate anchors for the program.

I get annoyed GW waste so much time on 'evocative' long shots, bees on flowers and musical interludes. The BG team get through 4 times as much material in their 30 minute programmes without going all 'arty'.

Just saw the programme last night - a joyful, relaxing and very informative 60 minutes. The time just flew by and there wasn't a 'dead' section in it.
Then came the end and MD saying there'd be no programme next week (yet again !!!) .

Sometimes I wonder by they bother with it at all.
I get the feeling that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's heart is just not in it.

There are 4 Ö÷²¥´óÐã channels - Ö÷²¥´óÐã1 is the rubbish cart (soaps and more soaps) but does have some good programmes once the rubbish watershed is passed. Ö÷²¥´óÐã2 also has good programmes. But what about Ö÷²¥´óÐã3 (I have never, ever, heard anyone say they look at Ö÷²¥´óÐã3, even ados) and Ö÷²¥´óÐã4? Yes, some good programmes, but very infrequently. So why not turn 3 or 4 into a dedicated sports' channel as has been suggested here for many years now.

Has GW been shelved for next year? With the Olympics on top of everything else, will this equate to one, long, awful year of nothing but sport?

This really is the big story. OK, so there is athletics on. Is anyone seriously going to believe that this is a valid reason to ditch the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's one gardening slot of the week. It's just laughable to think that this couldn't be worked around. Is anyone ever going to explain clearly to the viewers just what programmes wouldn't displace Gardeners' World should there be future 'clashes'. I would suggest that Monty Don is glad to have a break in his busy schedule, and gladly accepts these breaks throughout the year. Would a programme shown at 2100hrs or 2130hrs be unacceptable to gardeners? Of course not. I would have thought that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã could at least come up with a better, more honest, excuse for yet another gap in our schedule.

It would be nice to know the best place to put our feelings about the way GW get's knocked off the schedules by everything and anything.
    Can you help, please?

Absolutely. Just look at the multiple millions they are prepared to spend to get coverage of a few select Grand Prix races for about 3million viewers and then think how good a range of gardening programmes they could do with half that money for what is probably by now about 2/3rds of the same size audience for GW and then think about how much greener it would be too - very much on topic fo r the Beeb..
