Carol was on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Breakfast Show (Mon 12th) with two features about harvesting vegetables. The feature was intended to highlight the fact that more people are growing their own veg, but, apparently, many first-time gardeners do not know how to harvest it.

The vegetables chosen for illustration were slightly surprising, for this time of year, I thought:

    1) Potatoes - Carol tipped out a bucket-full of potatoes, that had been grown in a bucket. I suppose that gardeners growing spuds in the ground will be even more confused by this. Tip: if potatoes are in the ground you have to dig them up.

    2) French beans, which as Carol pointed out, do not originate from France. Carol had been growing a variety, Oxford Blue Bean.

    3) Beetroot - grown in Carol's waist-high raised beds.

The program was broadcast live, at 7.50am-ish on a dark morning, with a half-gale blowing.

A second live broadcast at 8.55am, in slightly brighter conditions. Another bucket of potatoes tipped out. Some onions and garlic, 'which I harvested earlier'. And a glimpse of a sweetcorn cob, still waiting for harvesting.

Classic question from the interviewer to Carol: 'I dont know anything about gardening, is it easy?'

I watched this- a typical lightweight programme filler-what person who goes to the trouble and expense of growing veg doesn't know how to harvest?
    Quite beyond me

    I agree!
I watched it and concluded the subject matter was a figment of someone's imagination at the beeb.
