How fortunate we all were to have two gardening programmes back-to-back last night. These were heaven for rose enthusiasts. The garden AT visited looked incredible and extremely labour intensive, and Rachel's rose garden was again impressive. The demonstration on how to make rose water was interesting but I couldn't imagine pulling off those beautifully scented blooms from my plants in their prime.
I watched MDs method of growing roses from cuttings with interest too as I'm also taking cuttings now. I've never had much success using Monty's method and it's because I forget them and the soil dries out. Mine are in flower pots with 50/50 compost/vermiculite, with plastic bags over their tops. I did notice Monty didn't leave the last pair of leaves on, the usual method, but I'll be interested to hear how they get on.
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable hour of television.
I've put in 10 'sticks' this morning following the Donmeister's methods, so will see what happens...I did dust the trench with BF&B too.
The LYG rose garden was a 'plantsmans' garden all right! They really needed to do away with the wee lawn, it was a bit comical have a 1m 'wall' of plants surrounding the grass.

Well LYG and GW were both good but GW was temperd for me by the fact that next week we will be getting no Monty or Longacres but a Ö÷²¥´óÐã 4 offering of bland garden tours, why not a programme from Caroles garden I don't know.
See have one man and is garden and this is what happens.
I hope I am wrong.

Yes Colin, it did look a touch like the Coliseum. He could have had minature horses and chariots charging around the edges of the borders. Nevertheless pretty impressive.
Didn't watch either of them I'm not a fan of roses so switched AT off, and the Humax didn't record GW

Funny name for your husband!

What a shame you don't like roses, to my mind amongst the most beautiful of garden plants. I'm posting a link here showing the roses in my garden. Perhaps I can change your mind
They are gorgeous Paul, thank you very much - I especially liked Whisky Mac
I always think roses are more trouble than they're worth given the short length of time they flower ( I know I'm generalising) plus, they don't grow very well down here in West Cornwall, so I'm afraid I sacrificed Alan Titchmarsh's programme on the altar of prejudice
"I'm afraid I sacrificed Alan Titchmarsh's programme on the altar of prejudice"
A lovely turn of phrase
AT's programme was worth it just to see the white garden part. I also enjoyed seeing a rose garden full of other plants as compared to so many where they have bare soil round the roses showing ugly bare stems.
I also enjoyed the rose garden on GW - sumptuous, and the rest of the programme was good for me too. I like the relaxed pace but i'd like a bit more detail and it would also be good to see the camera more directed at the action or plant or seed head than the presenter's face. We have sound after all to hear what they're saying as they perform each task.
Lovely!

I haven't seen Whisky Mac since the early 1970s. It was my grandfather's favourite rose and I remember as a small girl taking part in the family guided tour round his garden when it always got a special mention. Thank you Paul.
