  how enjoyable was the bbc's drama about egypt pretty good i think

  It was excellent and out on DVD in February. There are currently no plans to do another series but if enough interest is expressed I'm sure Ö÷²¥´óÐã History would consider a further series looking at other aspects - perhaps a concentration on Ancient Egypt this time rather than those in the modern world who made the discoveries?

  Dear Champlion,
  It would be a great service to the study of ancient Egyptian civilization if more light is shed on the period extending between ~ 1000BC to the seventh century AD. While the study of Egypt before 1000 BC is important and is still fascinating, it is the period following that which promises more.
  
  Around 1000 before Christ Egypt lost its national independence apart from a few short periods of national rule. The Egyptian people became a subject race with no leadership and no real national expression of itself whether in politics, religion, science, arts or literature until the Egyptians found in Christianity a new medium of expressing their national self-consciousness. Although Christianity did not lead them to regain their long lost political independence, it provided them with a reason to stress a very local identity.
  
  It would be very interesting providing a series to the study of these 1600 years or so of the Egyptians (as compared to Egypt's, which must now include the study of the ruling foreigners as well) history.
