Finnish Principal Guest Conductor, John Storgårds, presents richly varied music by Nielsen, Sibelius and Juon.

This afternoon’s programme opens with the dynamic overture to Nielsen’s vivid, comedy opera, Maskarade. Nielsen composed his sparkling little overture especially for stand-alone performance – complete with its own decisive ending.

Sibelius’ dark and lyrical, The Swan of Tuonela, is the most famous part of his Lemminkainen Suite and a cor anglais melody depicts the mournful voice of a lone swan.

The programme concludes with Juon’s passionate Rhapsodic Symphony.
