About This Event

The prize-winning young Marmen Quartet, formed in 2013 at London鈥檚 Royal College of Music, makes its 主播大秀 Proms debut with Haydn鈥檚 vivacious 鈥楲ark鈥� Quartet, which opens with a soaring violin melody that gives the work its nickname. It is also the inspiration for the String Quartet No. 1 by Robert Simpson, performed in this centenary year of his birth. Its opening draws on Haydn鈥檚 own initial theme and its ingenious coda reflects Haydn鈥檚 elegant simplicity, with a nod to Beethoven thrown in for good measure.
