About This Event

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night returns to Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall for a live edition. The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Concert Orchestra, Principal Conductor Bramwell Tovey and presenter Ken Bruce are joined by singer and actor Gary Wilmot, soprano Sarah Fox and the winner of Radio 2’s Young Brass Award, 17-year old cornet player Thomas Nielsen.

The programme includes show tunes by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Frank Loesser, Jerome Kern and George Gershwin, plus the sparkling Napoli by Bellstedt played by Thomas Nielsen (cornet). Orchestral fireworks are provided by the versatile Ö÷²¥´óÐã Concert Orchestra, including Shostakovich’s Festive Overture and John Williams’ music for the film Jurassic Park.

For more than 65 years, Friday Night Is Music Night has heralded the start of the weekend. First broadcast in 1953, the programme aims to help people relax after a week's hard work and put them in the right mood for a happy weekend. It’s the world’s longest running live orchestral music show, and its heady mix of classical and popular works, film music, and songs from the shows, opera and operetta has entertained audiences across the globe.
