听 The attempted melding of the horror and comedy genres has left many nasty, gasping efforts in its wake. Few films buck this trend, although vampires seem to make better comedy material. "Vamp" (1986) is an excellent example, as is the wonderful "Fright Night", now reborn on DVD.
Giggles and shocks combine to wonderful effect as the utterly charming Chris Sarandon moves in next door to the teenage William Ragsdale. He's a big fan of the TV series "Fright Night", hosted by Roddy McDowell in a wonderful take on Vincent Price. Unfortunately Ragsdale's love of the show means that no one believes him when he discovers that Sarandon is actually a vampire, and then the fun begins.
Despite being made back in 1985, Columbia has managed a transfer to DVD that is at times immaculate. Even dark exterior shots of Sarandon's house are crystal clear.
The new 5.1 sound mix adds plenty in the way of effects with the rear speakers busy emitting spooky noises.
Extras are limited to the trailer and filmographies, but overall, fans of the film will be delighted to see this fun movie looking so good on disc.
