听 The title "Se7en" on the box may indicate the number of hours that it would take to get through all the features on this double-disc set. On further inspection, it's probably days, as the amount and quality of the material on this release sets another benchmark, against which other DVDs will be judged.
Of principal importance is the transfer quality and it's safe to say that you will never have seen this film looking so good. Director David Fincher has supervised the process, and as a result various scenes have new subtle tones and levels of saturation that really freshen up this film.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS 6.1 ES mixes are both unrelenting in suffocating the viewer in claustrophobic tension. You'll appreciate them on a normal 5.1 set-up, or if lucky enough, with an added rear centre speaker. Unlike some other EX/ES mixes on the market, this one has specific added effects for the centre rear.
The four audio commentaries all dissect the film to a level that even the hardened fan could not approach. The first is a friendly conversation between Fincher, Pitt, and Freeman; with the other three commentaries offering more formal analysis of story, picture, and sound.
The lists below comprehensively cover the many additional features available on both discs. Virtually all aspects of production design are covered, and every feature includes a commentary from the appropriate talent involved. What is impressive is that nearly all these features are both interesting and enjoyable. If you just fancy a quick fix though, and like your trailers, then check out the teaser on disc two, now re-mixed into 5.1 sound - it'll fire you right up into watching the film.
