The Naked Gun 2陆: The Smell of Fear DVD (1991)

A few great comedy moments surface in an otherwise slightly laborious sequel to "The Naked Gun". The gags come thick and fast, but it's easy to miss many of them, unless of course you have the director and producer's commentary on this fabulous DVD to help you out.

The picture quality is fine. Occasional dark shots exhibit a little grain, but it's hardly worth getting worked-up over. (Why not worry instead about something you did years ago and never resolved?)

Some people within our society are known for the little things that matter the most to us, like: "she makes a lovely cup of tea," or "Her Simnel cakes are to die for." Equally, Paramount is just as known for re-mixing stereo (or mono) tracks into good 5.1. This is not one of their fruitier mixes (the rear speakers don't have a lot to do) but it's otherwise moist in the middle with a rich centre speaker while the not-under baked front left and right speakers carry the music and Foley effects well.

The humour used in this review may have left you feeling faint from laughter deprivation, so try a healthy dose of the commentary on the DVD for relief. It's not quite as funny as the "Airplane" disc commentary (few could be), but there are plenty of amusing recollections from director David Zucker and producer Robert K Weiss to enjoy.
