The Phantom DVD (1996)

Joining the ranks of movie superheroes that would fizzle out after only one blockbuster appearance is "The Phantom". Based on the highly successful comic book series, there's plenty of fun that shines through in the DVD release.

Whether the film excites you or not, it does excel with some glossy art direction that looks suitably slick in a quality picture transfer. Clear and sharp, this is a pleasure to watch.

Packed with action, the 5.1 sound mix takes full advantage with plenty of swashbuckling, speaker-swapping effects. David Newman's orchestrated music score also makes good use of the speaker set-up.

The one extra feature on the disc is a snappy trailer. Unfortunately, there is no director's commentary, unlike Paramount's "The Saint" DVD.
