听 The true story of Teena Brandon is explored in an Oscar-winning performance by Hilary Swank in "Boys Don't Cry", now released on a DVD that sheds further light on the work that first time writer and director Kimberley Peirce put into this movie.

Picture For such a new film, the picture quality is acceptable, but perhaps not quite as sharp as you might expect.
Sound The 5.1 mix doesn't have any major effects work to deal with, bar a little thunder, but does add atmosphere to the movie in building the tough environment that Brandon lived in.

Audio Commentary
Kimberly Peirce worked on bringing this story to the screen for five years, after reading about Brandon in 'The Village Voice'. As she explains on the commentary, she was struck by the sensationalistic nature of the coverage of the story in most media, and set out to try and find and explore what kind of life Brandon really had. She mixes in what is really known about the character, and how through this movie, she was trying to enter her mind, and bring us a truer interpretation of the tragic life of this young woman.
