听 Rob Schneider is indeed "The Animal", and he's keen to please on this DVD release of a comedy that doesn't flinch from the vulgar.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture We don't have any problems with the picture transfer, and it retains good colour balance on a projection set-up, as well as a TV.
Sound The 5.1 sound mix does what it can to enhance the visual comedy with a variety of overblown effects.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Audio Commentary Can you believe this DVD has two commentaries? What do these people think they're making? On track one we have Rob Schneider along with the producer of the movie. As rambling conversations go, this scores highly on the "of no consequence" meter. There's chat about cuts made, scenes changed and the like, but the efforts by Schneider to inject humour into the affair become quite tiresome. Still, the information that Ed Asner kept grabbing Schneider's ass is helpful.
Audio Commentary Two On track two we have the somewhat bewildered director, Luke Greenfield. This was his movie debut, and is his first commentary too. He imparts some rather more practical facts about filming than you'll find on track one. Our Ed Asner trivia gem this time round is that Luke's mum kept hanging out on set because she's got the hots for him.
Bet when you clicked on this review you never thought you'd learn that Ed Asner grabs ass and is the focus for mature female lust?
Badger Delivery Every time the 'Badger Delivery' icon flashes up during the movie, you can watch extended footage cut from the film. Rob Schneider and writer Tom Brady introduce these segments, which are for the most part quite tame. There's no sign of the lengthy postbox humping scene severely trimmed in order to get the movie an acceptable rating.
Comedy Central's Reel Comedy This 'making of' 22-minute promo for the film is quite staggeringly unfunny. It's not supposed to be, but Schneider's antics in trying to sell the film just don't work. The lack of a good structure for his gags leaves him looking like he perhaps need medical attention. He certainly needs to ditch those white socks.
Animal Instincts Now this 'making of' featurette works better than the previous one, because it doesn't try to be funny.
Deleted Scenes There are another four deleted scenes on the DVD along with the material you'll find courtesy of the 'Badger Delivery'.
Additional Extra Features Also on the disc is a What's in Marvin 'game', which really is just an excuse to watch scenes from the movie; cast and crew filmographies; and trailers. The animated menus which wrap this all up are worth a mention for the amusing way they work.
