Expectations were high for Quentin Tarantino's third movie, and while some people were left disappointed, many were pleased with this thoughtful movie that's maturing very nicely on a two-disc DVD release.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture Now who would dare mess with the appearance of Pam Grier with a lousy DVD transfer? Not Buena Vista it would seem, as they've blessed this sun-kissed movie with excellent picture quality.
Sound It's always nice to have the option of a Dolby or DTS 5.1 mix on a DVD, but this is not a film that has a lot of effects to play with. That said, the atmospheric effects and music score do work beautifully to enhance the mood of the film.
DISC ONE SPECIAL FEATURES
Enhanced Trivia Track If you love knowing obscure facts about a film, or simply want to be the most foremost "Jackie Brown" expert in your drinking circle, then this track is for you. Taking the form of a subtitle track, there's a wealth of information constantly running along the bottom of the screen. This includes locations, song titles, who auditioned for which role, differences between the finished film and original script, and even what the Kangol brand actually stands for on Samuel L Jackson's hat.
Additional Disc One Extra Features Also on disc one is a chapter selection menu that allows you to locate the songs of the music track, and a trailer for the "Pulp Fiction" DVD.
DISC TWO SPECIAL FEATURES
Quentin Tarantino DVD Intro Quentin welcomes us to the DVD, and hopes that it's been worth the wait. Let's find out shall we?
How it Went Down This is a 38-minute documentary that's all about how the film came about. Based on the Elmore Leonard novel "Rum Punch", Tarantino almost gave the project to another director as he wanted to work on a different Leonard book. A chance re-read of the book changed Tarantino's mind and he got to casting the film, which is a process that for Quentin is about plugging in the right actors for the right roles. "I'm looking further than the list", says Quentin when explaining that it's only co-incidental that his choices have revived the careers of previously fading actors. All the major cast members are on hand to offer their thoughts and anecdotes on the movie.
A Look Back at "Jackie Brown" Those of you who enjoy Tarantino in interview will no doubt be pleased with this hour-long effort. He's a very animated and enthusiastic speaker, and it certainly is not only endearing, but quite rare to see a director be so passionate about what he does. Anecdotes galore are there for the picking, including some amusing comments on Samuel L Jackson choosing his own wardrobe for his part.
Chicks With Guns Video Here is the hilarious video made for the movie of bikini-clad women handling their favourite automatic weapons.
Deleted and Alternate Scenes There are six scenes on offer here, plus an introduction from Quentin Tarantino.

There's also a trailer for the 1996 film "Original Gangstas".
