After a heavy night's drinking, a millionaire businessman wakes up in a pool of someone else's blood in Jurm, Vikram Bhatt's latest Bollywood thriller. Tycoon Avinash Malhotra (Bobby Deol) is the unfortunate man in question, charged by the police with the murder of his beautiful wife Sanjana (Lara Dutta) only moments after he opens his bleary eyes. But don't be expecting a cracking Indian take on The Fugitive: this turns out to be only just preferable to experiencing a mild hangover yourself.

A crime has obviously been committed but as Avinash points out, where is his wife's body? With the help of his best friend Sonia (Gul Panag) and legal advisor Rohit Saxena (Milind Soman), Avinash tries to recollect the events leading up to the night. But they soon realise fighting his case is going to be more difficult than they thought, as Avinash finds himself more and more trapped. Soon it becomes a race against time to prove his innocence before he is tried and convicted of Sanjana's death.

"AS TRANSPARENT AS DUTTA'S WET SARI"

Despite some great songs and decent turns by Deol and Dutta as loving husband and wife, Bhatt's heavy-handed direction - plus the story's lack of red herrings - leaves Jurm as flat as a pancake. Although tension builds at a steady pace, the film's conclusion is as transparent as Dutta's wet sari. No different from any of the umpteen other thrillers produced by Bollywood in recent years, Jurm's main crime is not being thrilling enough.
