Bachke Rehna Re Baba (Beware) (2005)
PGContains mild sex references and language

Director Govind Menon looks to Hollywood for inspiration in Bachke Rehna Re Baba, a tired reworking of Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt's 2001 comedy Heartbreakers. Bollywood stalwart Rekha steps into Sigourney's shoes as a conniving vintage beauty who uses her devious and curvaceous niece (Mallika Sherawat) to extract alimony from unsuspecting old rich men. While funny in places, this comedy is high on sexual innuendos but low on genuine laughs.

When it comes to conning millionaires, the aunt/niece team of Rukmini (Rekha) and Padmini (Sherawat) are real pros. However trouble brews when Padmini falls in love with a young restaurateur called Raghu (Karan Khanna), thus spoiling her aunt's well-laid schemes to con loaded Mauritiun entrepreneur Sindhi Gutkha (Satish Shah). Soon there's not only a dead body to tackle but also the unexpected arrival of Monty (Paresh Rawal), Rukmini's jilted Punjabi lover. But hey, when your leading ladies are Bollywood's latest sex symbol and a 70s screen siren making a comeback, anything is possible - even if it means flirting your way out of unrealistic situations.

"OVER-THE-TOP NONSENSE"

While male audiences may delight in Rekha's glamour and Ms Sherawat and her rainbow-coloured bikinis, even they won't be able to ignore the fact that Bachke Rehna Re Baba's plot is over-the-top nonsense. Instead of improving on Heartbreakers, Menon and company seem content with marinating the original script in a pungent Bollywood masala. Sadly the outcome is a spicy but tasteless dish.
