Contains mild fantasy violence and peril
The high school coming-of-age movie gets a space-age spin in Sky High, which gives the trials and tribulations of one all-American teen an additional twist by making him the underachieving son of two famous superheroes. Think The Incredibles mixed with Harry Potter and you鈥檒l know what to expect from Mike Mitchell's sly sci-fi comedy, which cheekily subverts genre clich茅s to deliver a healthy helping of family-friendly entertainment that makes a virtue of its cheesy effects and geek-pleasing cameos.
Having The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston) as his mum and dad doesn't make life any easier for Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano), especially as his own super powers have yet to materialise. Reluctantly packed off to Sky High - a top-secret academy for adolescent crime-fighters that hovers high above the clouds - this would-be hero's self-esteem issues escalate when he is demoted to the demeaning status of sidekick.

Will makes friends with his fellow dweebs but finds himself persecuted by both his teachers and classmates. To make matters worse there's an evil villain stalking Sky High's halls, just waiting to take revenge on Will's parents...
Comic-book aficionados will have a ball spotting the references peppered throughout Mitchell's light-hearted caper, while casting Lynda 'Wonder Woman' Carter and The Evil Dead's Bruce Campbell brings an extra dimension to their supporting characters. And while originality is hardly the film's strongest suit, its agreeable mix of knowing spoof and kid-pleasing fantasy makes it considerably more engaging than some of the 'straight' superhero blockbusters we've suffered recently.
Exciting, silly and very, very funny
