Jab We Met (When We Met) (2007)
PGContains mild language and sex references

Having delivered a series of flops as a real couple, it's ironic that Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur's screen chemistry should finally begin to sizzle post-relationship breakup. Writer/director Imtiaz Ali pairs the ex-lovebirds in Jab We Met, a simple 'city boy meets country gal' romantic comedy, which does exactly what it says on the tin. There are no fancy gimmicks, twists or turns in this plot. It's the awakening and defiance of young love that is hero here.

Priding herself on never having missed a single train, feisty Punjabi student Geet (Kapoor) is sent off track when she bumps into Aditya (Kapur) on an overnight sleeper to Delhi. While attempting to get a depressed Mumbai businessman back on board after a station stop, they're left stranded in the middle of nowhere. Having walked out of his pressurised corporate job, Aditya has no destination in mind, until Geet forces him to accompany her back home and then on to elope with her secret boyfriend (Tarun Arora). One 'When Harry Met Sally' style journey across India later, the twosome discover how life and love can let you down. But could real romance be around the corner? Need we even ask?

"KAPOOR SHINES AS THE REBELLIOUS YOUNG LOVER"

Ali keeps the storyline sweet and straightforward, allowing the personalities of his lead characters to take center stage. Kapur is endearing as the knight in shining armour, but it's the fair maiden who steals the show. Kapoor shines as the rebellious but naive young woman whose machine gun chatter and spontaneous actions affect all those around her. It's the combo of Geet's spirit; her comical Sikh family and Pritam's superb soundtrack that makes you forgive the drama's predictable outcome.

In Hindi with English subtitles.
