Race (2008)
12aContains moderate sex and injury detail

Packed full of A-list stars, stunning locations and sexy songs, Race has all the essential ingredients of a Bollywood masala movie. With veteran director duo Abbas and Mustan Burmawalla at the helm, you're also guaranteed plenty of thrills and spills in this tale of two warring step brothers (Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna) competing in a game of life and death. Set in South Africa against the glamorous backdrop of horse racing, there are plenty of studs on show here 鈥 and that's just the lead actors. Suspend your disbelief to enjoy the kitsch ride.

Having competed in cycle races as kids, Ranvir (Khan) and Rajiv (Khanna) continue their competitive brotherly streak into their adult lives. As the owners of a stud farm in Durban, Ranvir's passion for horse racing and gambling is matched by Rajiv's obsession with alcohol. It's only when fillies of the two legged variety enter the scene that the games really begin. Ranvir's PA (Katrina Kaif) is smitten by her boss, but it's sultry ramp model Sonia (Bipasha Basu) who steals both his and Rajiv's heart. One wedding and a steamy affair later, all is not what is seems as double crosses lead to a contract killing.

"TRAVELS AT BREAK-NECK SPEED"

Littered with more twists and turns than Silverstone, Race is certainly a visual roller coaster of a ride. True to form Abbas and Mustan ensure the action and cast look slick, but falter by allowing Khan and Khanna to ham it up. It's left to Anil Kapoor's wise-cracking investigator and his bimbo assistant (Sameera Reddy) to inject humour and sort out fact from fiction. Shiraz Ahmed's screenplay may travel at break-neck speed, hurtling towards an obvious conclusion, but you can't but help but get carried away with this farce. Stylish but silly.
