The Hottie And The Nottie (2008)
12aContains moderate sex references

After a panning in the States, The Hottie And The Nottie is being promoted as one of the worst-reviewed films ever. If Paris Hilton wasn't in it, no-one would care, but we all love to hate her, so you can see the logic. But it's still hard to enjoy this amateurish romp about a geek who tracks down his childhood sweetheart, only to be told he must pair off her ugly friend before they can date.

Hilton puts in a just-bearable performance as the so-called Hottie, Christabelle, who unfeasibly tells Nate (Joel David Moore) that she can't possibly step out with him until her bosom buddy June (Christine Lakin) has found someone special. June is a ridiculous figure who wouldn't last a day in LA without an enforced makeover. And yet, this prosthetically uglified, ungainly girl with hair in all the wrong places is somehow flatsharing with vacuous uber-bimbo Christabelle. As Nate attempts to find a man to woo June, men react with exaggerated horror, but it takes a nanosecond to work out that June is beautiful underneath and a far better match for Nate than Christabelle.

"SOME VERY LAME GAGS"

But this is a sexist comedy set in LA, so June has to undergo a major makeover before Nate can even bear to speak to her. The borderline offensive premise isn't helped by some very lame gags, but there are guilty laughs here and there. The Hottie And The Nottie is a bad film, but it's not the worst film ever. Sorry.

The Hottie And The Nottie is out in the UK on 28th March 2008.
