One of Herefordshire's most intriguing graves was once situated between the villages of Much Birch and Much Dewchurch at Wormelow Tump. Near the entrance to the Bryngwyn House was once a burial mound, believed to be the grave of Mordred, the nephew of King Arthur or maybe that of Amr, the son of King Arthur.

According to historical legend, Mordred was murdered by his uncle and buried at the Tump and, in her book "Arthurian links with Herefordshire", Mary Andere describes the legend of Amr in great detail.

The tump lies near the spring called Gamber Head, and the Arthurian writer Nennius writes that Amr, the son of Arthur the soldier, was killed by his father and buried in the tump.

Nennius also describes how the tump changed shape and length whenever men came to measure it.听

Mary Andere says the changing measurements can be explained by the changes in the flow of the spring.听听

Unfortunately the mound was flattened to widen the road, so the mystery remains, but the name lives on in the village pub which is opposite the former site of the tump.

Local folk tales also record that it was impossible for a man or woman to cross the mound twice at the same spot.
