The Heroes are Alex Totman, Alex van Rosse (invariably known as "Rooster") Alister Lee and Greg Blockley.

They are all local lads and are on the verge of a breakthrough as they open the Summer Sundae Weekender 2008.

How this big opportunity came about is, by their own admission, rather ironic. The played for a place in the line-up in the Battle of the Bands but were kicked out at the semi-final stage.

"We thought we'd been robbed," they said.

But their demoralisation turned to triumph when they won the 主播大秀 East Midlands competition to open the prestigious and now well established festival.

Having become regulars at venues such as the Charlotte, the Alchemist and the Looking Glass how are they approaching playing a giant open air festival?

"But we shall keep the energy and passion there... We'll just focus on performing.

"The atmosphere and the weather and the crowds will be great. It'll all gel together."

The members of the group list an eclectic range of influences including The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Jam, The Beatles, The Who and the Smiths

The Summer Sundae Weekender - into its seventh year - is now established as a three day festival.

It features internationally known and cutting edge artists on stages both indoors and outdoors. There are full camping facilities, plus the eFestivals Cabaret Tent.

A Packed Weekend!

The headline acts are confirmed as The Magic Numbers, Divine Comedy, Spiritualised Acoustic Mainlines, and Echo and the Bunnymen,听The Rumble Strips, Duke Special, Gruff Rhys and many more.

The festival, which takes place at the De Montfort Hall and Gardens on 08, 09 and 10 August, boasts:

• 100 artists
• Four bars
• Three days of music
• Five stages
• Two campsites

It will be a three day feast of music attracting fans from all over the country.
