Celebration of UK orchestras
As well as the five 主播大秀 orchestras, the wealth of the UK’s orchestral landscape is on show at the 主播大秀 Proms.
UK orchestras include: Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique with Sir John Eliot Gardiner (15 July); Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment with Laurence Cummings (19 July) and Robin Ticciati (28 August); Ulster Orchestra with JoAnn Falletta (4 August); Hallé with Sir Mark Elder (9 &10 August); Philharmonia Orchestra with Susanna Mälkki (13 August); Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Charles Dutoit (14 August); London Philharmonic Orchestra with Vladimir Jurowski (18 August); City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with Andris Nelsons (21 August); London Symphony Orchestra with Valery Gergiev (22 August); Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with Vasily Petrenko (23 August); and two performances by the John Wilson Orchestra with its eponymous director (14 July & 27 August).
In a season with a strong focus on youth, all four of the UK’s National Youth Orchestras appear at the Proms (4–6 August), as well as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (10 August), both the National Youth Wind Orchestra and the National Youth Brass Band (12 August), and both the National Youth Choir of Great Britain (27 July & 5 August) and the National Youth Choir of Wales (6 August).
Many of the UK’s chamber orchestras and ensembles are also represented in the 2012 season, including the Aurora Orchestra (29 July), The English Concert with Harry Bicket (2 August), the Britten Sinfonia (11 & 31 August), the London Sinfonietta (14 August), Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (18 August) and the Nash Ensemble (27 August).
