The Hit List Celebrity Special

Husband and wife presenting duo Marvin and Rochelle Humes will host this special celebrity edition of highly addictive music quiz The Hit List coming soon to 主播大秀 One.

The stars teaming up to compete in this exciting 45-minute episode, made by Tuesday’s Child Scotland, are comedian Susan Calman with 主播大秀 Radio 1 DJ Melvin Odoom; former footballer and rap star John Barnes with 主播大秀 Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills and football pundit and presenter Chris Kamara with DJ and presenter Vick Hope.

The pressure is well and truly on for the celebrities, especially the DJs, to name as many hit songs and artists as possible for the chance to be crowned the champions and collect up to £10,000 for their chosen charities.

Tell us how it was filming the Celebrity Special?

Marvin: It was amazing! Scott, Melvin and Vick are all radio DJs so there is a certain expectation that they should do well, especially Scott Mills, he should really know his stuff.

Rochelle: He took it so seriously!

M: The pressure is on him, as he’s got 20+ years of Radio 1 knowledge behind him, so it will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Chris Kamara was brilliant, Susan was hilarious and we are good mates with Melvin so it was really nice to have him on the show and John Barnes was really great value. We even got him doing a bit of the rap. He loved it!

Who do you think would make the ultimate celebrity pairing on the show?

R: Elton John would be the BEST Hit List contestant. If you follow him, you know how up to date he is with his music. Just the other day he was talking about Skepta. He has his own radio show and if you think about the wealth of music knowledge he has, it is immense. Tom Jones is another person that is up to date with his music and has been in the industry since the 60’s so I think he would be brilliant too. They would definitely be the best duo - Sir Tom and Sir Elton!

Susan Calman & Melvin Odoom

How are you feeling going into the show? Do you have a team strategy?

Melvin: We're going to play to our strengths!

Susan: Always play to your strengths. People are actually laughing at us for revising, but having watched The Hit List I know that the best teams, the ones that win, are the father/daughter combinations - so in this case I'm the father and Melvin's my daughter. That’s the way it's going to be, because he knows modern music and I know nothing past the year 2000. So I think we’re going to do really well!

Susan, how does it feel to be filming locally in your hometown of Glasgow?

S: It's lovely because I don't get to film an awful lot in Glasgow and I know there will be a live studio audience - so I'm hoping that they’ll lift us above mediocrity and help us win because the Scottish crowd will hopefully back us. I mean, this is my hometown after all.

M: And they love you here, they love you everywhere. Will they like me do you think?

S: Oh yeah they will definitely like you, my daughter.

Melvin, given your day job as a successful Radio 1 DJ, do you feel any pressure to win?

M: I am so scared about this game today because everyone's going: "Oh you’re the DJ so you should know all the tracks that are gonna be playing later on." But I'm not too sure about track names. I know artists but track names are where I can get a little bit confused.

S: What I've noticed is that, the three of us who aren't DJs are finding this a very relaxing and enjoyable thing.

M: Whereas I feel like my job is on the line to be honest. Susan, can you do my radio show if this doesn’t work out?

S: Sure! It’s quite interesting though because, you know me I'm small enough to hide, I was hiding in the makeup room and Vick made a very good point - as a radio DJ she sees the tracks and artists displayed right there on the computer in front of her so it's a different way of thinking. So as a nonprofessional DJ, who simply listens to music, maybe I’ll have the edge.

First live gig you ever went to and where was it held?

S: I don't go to lots of gigs because I'm a very short and I find it very uncomfortable - so unless it's an all seated affair I won’t go. My first gig though I think was at the Pavilion in Glasgow and it was Chris Isaak. He was great!

M: My first gig was Tim Westwood at the Carnival after party. Lil' Kim, Junior M.A.F.I.A., Busta Rhymes and Jay-Z were all there at this place called The Temple in Tottenham.

S: Feel free to vote now on who had the coolest first gig experience. If nothing else that first gig experience exemplifies how we are an exceptional team of very diverse genres. We’ve covered all bases!

John Barnes & Scott Mills

How are you feeling going into the show? Do you have a team strategy?

Scott: I haven't revised; I haven’t done my homework at all. I know the other teams are listening to their playlists but I think what’s the point of that, you don’t know what we are going to be asked, it could be anything?!

John: The amount of songs there are between 1960 up until now, I mean how can you revise for that? I just think if you know the song now then you should know it when it comes on - if not then there’s no chance.

S: I think it's a bit late to revise but I know that Melvin Odoom is currently listening to some playlists right now, like that's gonna help him!

Scott, given your day job as a successful Radio 1 DJ, do you feel any pressure to win?

S: Being a DJ I do feel that a lot of this may rest with me, what do you think John? He’s been apologising to me all day but in the same way, he said to me: "If you were in my football team I wouldn't expect too much from you."

J: I'm only here to make you look good Scott.

S: Although if there was a football anthem category then I think we would sweep up!

First live gig you ever went to and where was it held?

J: I think mine was Grandmaster Flash at the Hammersmith Apollo, 1977.

S: That’s a good one! Mine is less impressive than John’s... I went to see Eternal in Manchester but I cannot remember what year it was. It was a while back.

Vick Hope & Chris Kamara

Are you both feeling prepared going into the show? Do you have a team strategy?

Chris: Well, I haven't done any homework at all because I knew I’d be paired up with Vick who knows everything about every single song. She’s amazing so I'm just gonna stand there and go: "Yes Vick!"

Vick: I feel like I’m under enormous pressure here. I only really know songs from the last two years since I’ve been doing radio - so I was hoping, Chris, you would be able to help me!

C: I know a million songs; do I know the title of them? No. Do I know the intro to them? No. We’ll have a laugh anyway, whatever happens…

What would you say your strongest genre for music knowledge would be?

V: Well I think for me personally, it is going to be pop. I think probably current pop, followed by noughties pop, followed by 90s pop. But, I keep thinking I know 90s pop when the truth is I was fairly small - so now I’m a little nervous. I don't really know if I do...

C: 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s up until today, yeah - I don't know any of them.

V: I thought you were going to say you’ve got it all covered!

C: We will have to wait and see!

First live gig you ever went to and where was it held?

V: Can you remember a band called Athlete? They used to sing a song that went something like: "Go to El Salvador…" Anyway I had a massive crush on the lead singer who was called Joel and it was the first time I got into indie rock and I thought I was dead cool. I was 13 and they played at the Northumbria Students Union and my dad was there but he had to stand like seven people back and watch me and my friends from a distance because I didn’t want him cramping my style.

C: My first ever gig, I went to see Rod Stewart. He was amazing, I saw him afterwards as well. But I’d love to see Elton John, he's my hero. One day I want him to introduce me, you know in the song Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me when George Michael introduces Elton? I want Elton to do that for me.

V: If you see this Elton, make it happen!

C: Please Elton; it’s the last thing on my bucket list.
