Britain’s Easter Story

Britain’s Easter Story, a new two-part series for 主播大秀 One Daytime, explores what Easter means to British Christians today and delves into how it has been celebrated in the past.

Uncovering the stories behind our Easter traditions, the programme travels all over the country - from the Holy Island in Northumbria, one of the earliest sites of British Christianity, to the Holy Mount in Brecon Beacon in Wales (where Jesus’s death is said to have ‘split the rocks’ on Good Friday), to Glastonbury, home of the sacred Glastonbury Thorn, whose flower is still sent to the Queen to be used as a table setting at Christmas and Easter.

The series also looks at the different celebrations that have developed over the years, and how music remains a big part of it. We’ll discover the stories behind traditional Easter hymns and find out about some more modern Easter traditions brought over to Britain by the Windrush generation.

Britain’s Easter Story (2x60’) is a 主播大秀 Studios production. The executive Producer is Rob Unsworth. It was commissioned by Dan McGolpin, Controller of 主播大秀 Programming and Daytime, and Fatima Salaria, Commissioning Editor.

Walks Of Life

Walks Of Life goes to the heart of the fascinating cultural and spiritual narratives that can be found throughout the Great British countryside. Each week Presenters Mehreen Baig and JB Gill (pictured) will take viewers on a specially curated walk that will explore modern attitudes to religion, belief, and society’s relationship with the spectacular landscapes around us.

Each journey will be organised around a theme, either literary, historical, biographical or artistic. One week they will be following in the footsteps of Wordsworth in the Lake District; the next, trekking the wild moors of the Cairngorms National Park that once entranced Queen Victoria. Along the way, JB and Mehreen will meet fascinating and inspiring people from that area and with their help will uncover the stories behind the spiritually significant places located there, be they places of worship and monuments or burial sites or sites of pilgrimage.

Walks Of Life (8x60’) is a 7Wonder production. Alan Holland is the Exec Producer and the Series Producer is Debb Swindells. It was commissioned by Dan McGolpin, Controller of 主播大秀 Programming and Daytime, and Fatima Salaria, Commissioning Editor.

My Faith And Me

My Faith And Me will return this year with four hour-long programmes, each featuring four public figures who revisit key events from their past that have shaped them and explore their unique relationships with religion and faith.

The series follows their own personal journey as they return to places they had life-defining moments, re-engage with the people who shaped their lives, and experience genuine revelations about who they are and what they believe.

My Faith And Me (4x60’) is a 7Wonder production. Alexandra Fraser is the Executive Producer. It was commissioned by Dan McGolpin, Controller of 主播大秀 Programming and Daytime, and Fatima Salaria, Commissioning Editor.

Songs Of Praise In The Holy Land

To celebrate the 主播大秀’s Year of Belief 2019, Aled Jones takes Songs Of Praise to the Holy Land for the first time.

It is a long established tradition for Christians to go on pilgrimage to The Holy Land, particularly at Easter, so for Songs of Praise on Palm Sunday Aled Jones accompanies a choir of young Christians as they visit all the key sights for the first time in their lives. The choir will also sing Easter hymns and songs for the programme.

For Songs of Praise on Easter Sunday, the most important time of year for Christians across the world, the programme will capture the faith stories of Lion King star Shaun Escoffery and renowned soprano Laura Wright as they visit some of the most famous and sacred places in all of Christianity including Jesus’ crucifixion, burial and resurrection sites. Both Shaun and Laura also perform moving solos in these sacred places.

Aled Jones presents both programmes and will also sing.
