Spike Lee’s 6 Music Playlist
Legendary Malcolm X director Spike Lee plays 15 of his favourite tunes in this show, especially recorded for 6 Music.
His choices include Marvin Gaye's title track from the film Trouble Man and Mary Don't You Weep by Prince - a song discovered in the vault at Paisley Park (Princes’s extraordinary private estate and production complex in Chanhassen) which end credits Spike's new movie, Blackkklansman.
Spike also talks of being a fan of George Gershwin, playing Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong from Porgy and Bess. He provides a truly eclectic mix which also includes a few surprises, such as Sampha and Minnie Ripperton. Other artists in his playlist include Fluetry, The Jones Girls, Alicia Keys and Chaka Khan.
