Senior Paramedic Rich (pictured) is on duty to support ambulance crews across the city centre for the 12-hour Friday night shift. As he scans the streets for his first job it isn’t long before he’s called to treat his first patient. A category one response is needed for a patient who is lying unconscious on the street because it is believed he has taken spice.

An hour into the shift and the team in control take another category one call - this time for a baby who isn’t breathing. As the parents are given lifesaving advice over the phone, paramedics Alice and Lauren are immediately dispatched, supported at scene by Rich. When the team arrive the premature baby is breathing, but they waste no time taking the baby to hospital. But before they get there the situation takes a turn for the worse and they are called on to give CPR.

With only one ambulance now available in the city centre the next job is for a male in the city centre who is unresponsive. Alice and Lauren arrive to find him in a doorway reluctant to speak with them. Determined to get the patient out of the cold they persuade him to go to hospital.

The busy night begins to take its toll on the team in control. Jo and Cam are sent to help 58 year-old patient who has had a fall at home. She has been kept waiting for an ambulance for three hours.

Meanwhile Alice and Lauren are dispatched to a patient who has fallen and is confused. The crew are concerned with how the patient is presenting, so they decide that she must be taken to hospital for further tests.

Before long, 48 patients are waiting for an ambulance. The next call in progress is for an unconscious patient in the city centre and Alice and Lauren are immediately dispatched, once again joined by Senior Paramedic Rich. On scene they discover their patient is Lithuanian and in order to ascertain exactly what’s happened they have to rely on a language translation app to help.

As the shift approaches the early hours, an emergency call is in progress from the city centre for a patient who is unresponsive after being found by nightclub bouncers. Her drink has allegedly been spiked. Senior Paramedic Rich is immediately dispatched to the city centre club.

Just metres from the bar another emergency call is in progress, this time for a young male on the floor, Rich is quickly challenged by a group of people who demand aggressively that he attends him. The next thing control is aware of, a panic button has been pressed and they have a crew under attack.

With jobs outstanding in the city centre, Alice and Lauren are dispatched to their fifth job of the night for a female who is unconscious in the city centre.

With no signs of the night slowing down, the next call is from a concerned colleague for a patient who has taken Viagra. The anxious patient has taken the drug before work, and Jo and Cam try to calm him while giving him relationship advice.
