Rising 400 feet out of the sea at the point where the Bristol Channel meets the Atlantic is Lundy Island, an outcrop of granite about three and a half miles long where some of Devon's most varied wildlife lives.

Nature watching:

Between April and October the Island Warden takes visitors on special wildlife walks and snorkelling safaris to show off all that Lundy has to offer. All events are free of charge (with the exception of the Snorkelling Safaris which cost £5 for equipment hire).

Puffins - the best chance of seeing them is from St Phillips Stone or on a guided walk. May-August is the best time.

Getting there:

Lundy Island is situated off the coast of Bideford in Devon, 11 miles north of Hartland Point in the Bristol Channel.

Ìý

The island is only accessible by boat. Timetables are available on the Lundy Island website and tickets can be purchased in advance at or can be bought on the day of your visit.

Ìý

Prices range from £29 for an adult day return to £67 for a family ticket with discounts available for concessions (OAPs, students, children) as well as school groups and National Trust members.

Ìý

Visitors staying on Lundy Island during the winter can charter a helicopter from Hartland Point, which operates on Mondays and Fridays.

Car parking: Pay and display parking available at Bideford or Ilfracombe for ferry access only.

Opening times:

Open April - October (dependent on access by boat) but winter breaks are available between November and March.

Charges:The entrance fee is included in the cost of the boat ticket. Visitors arriving at the island by other means pay £3.50.
