Nook on the north-eastern coast of Lincolnshire is a seal watchers' paradise. It
boasts one of the largest and most accessible breeding colonies of Grey Seals
in the UK. An encounter with a seal at Donna Nook is almost guaranteed
because this is effectively a seal maternity hospital. | |  | Coastal areas are great for winter wildlife. Visit other coastal

The reserve is shared with the RAF's military bombing range so look out for red
warning flags. When these flags are out, don't head out onto the sandbanks. There
is generally no military activity at weekends and bank holidays.
Give
the seals maximum respect - don't rush around the sandbanks and scare the animals.
They can also be quick to attack if you upset them. | | Key

Gibraltar Point is located nearby with its excellent facilities for viewing wintering
birds. | | Essential kit: | The
east coast in winter can be unforgiving so don't forget protective clothing -
waterproofs, wellies, spare clothing and a hat are essential. | | Nature

the best times to see the Donna Nook seals. During these months the Lincolnshire
Wildlife Trust runs a warden service to protect the seals and to organise watching
facilities for visitors. | | Access: | Limited
disabled access at Stonebridge. Access is on natural sandy tracks though the dunes
- this is difficult but not impossible for wheelchairs - assistance would be required. | | Getting
there: | The reserve covers over 6 miles of coastline
between Grainthorpe Haven and Saltfleet on the Lincolnshire coast.
Access from
the main A1031 coastal road. Parking at Stonebridge, Howden's Pullover, Sea Lane,
Saltfleet and Saltfleet Haven 听 There are parking facilities at Stonebridge,
Howden's
Pullover, Sea Lane, Saltfleet and Saltfleet Haven. Public access
is also possible at Merrikin's Pullover , but there are no parking facilities.
Access at Howden's Pullover, Saltfleet Haven and Merrikin's Pullover is down unmetalled
roads.
For the breeding colony of Grey Seals,
visitors can use the small, free car park at Stonebridge. A local farmer usually
opens a field for parking for which there will be a charge.
Weekdays
are the best time to visit - the narrow lanes and car park get very congested
at weekends. Organised parties can be arranged via the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust's
