Campaigners call for action on disabled 'hate crimes'
Inside Out reports on how disabled people in the North West are becoming the victims of hate crime.
Campaigners are calling for new laws forcing police to record attacks on people with learning difficulties as "hate crimes" similar to racist violence.
Gary Skelly, who had learning difficulties, was killed in a street attack in Liverpool in 2011.
His friends and family have launched the because they fear his death is part of an increasing wave of bullying and intimidation faced by people with disabilities which is going unrecorded.
At present, very few crimes against people with disabilities are categorised as hate crimes by police forces in the UK. Campaigners say this means the true level of this type of crime is under-reported.
