She's a veteran of the Sugar Sweet club in Belfast, she spent a decade in Leeds and was in a band with Corinne Bailey Rae. She's been a backing singer for Rhianna, has worked with David Holmes and now she's back home in Norn Iron and reworking her soul-jazz repertoire with a more acoustic dimension.

This four track EP shouldn't be confused with the similarly titled album from last year. The music is more succinct, the arrangements are tighter and the voice is less inclined to wander and embellish. The best track is 'Blue Boy', blessed with a lazy, hypnotic groove that's almost west African. The wiry guitar lines recall Ali Farka Toure while the rhythm is a reminder of Stevie Wonder and 'Higher Ground'.

'California Soul' has been covered by Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell and Marlena Shaw. This singer stays loyal to the relaxed shuffle, and while she commits no crimes, it's hard to come away with a new take on this. Elsewhere, the Hammond organ gurgles and 'Sure Come Over' earns its keep. A small hours ballad, 'Carry Me Away' completes the CV. The talent and the intent is very clear. The extra inch of songwriting skill could make all the difference.
