Pretty Child Backfire
Gig Reviews...
Pretty Child Backfire, The Runaway Bears, Inderal
You can't beat a bit of mid-week craic, especially in the form of some live music, and Wednesday night finds Auntie Annie's playing host to Inderal, The Runaway Bears and Pretty Child Backfire. Unfortunately The Flora, The Fauna had to pull out, but there's still high hopes for a great night.

First up are Inderal, a young band, brand new to the gigging circuit. Initially, one could be forgiven for thinking that they are a Nirvana tribute act, but it quickly becomes enjoyable. Growing in confidence as the set progresses, the frontman possesses a swagger that calls to mind Craig Nicholls of The Vines, creating a definite stage presence. It still needs work, and they need more memorable material, but it's enjoyable all the same.

Next up are The Runaway Bears, a band that clearly possess real musical talent, but struggle to operate together as a unit. With work, they could be a lot tighter, and it's clear that the crowd are willing to go with them on the journey, getting into it as their set progresses, with cheers being heard as they launch into 'Holes'. There's definitely something here, with elements of Mojo Fury and Biffy Clyro shining through, which is always a good thing in our humble opinion!

Pretty Child Backfire headline, a band that are definitely one of the most promising newbie bands on the scene. After running a it late due to technical difficulties, the band look disheartened, as though the confidence has been drained out of them. However, they get off to a good start with an instrumental opener in true Foals style.

The songs are catchy, with sing-a-long vocals and captivating guitar riffs getting quickly stuck in your head. 'I Wish I Knew You Better' is a particular highlight, and gets the assembled punters clapping hands and dancing along with the band.

Overall, another great set by Pretty Child Backfire but they need to work on their confidence and stage presence. The crowd were singing along and enjoying it - it's time they started believing in themselves, because a lot of other people do!
