Gig Review
Master and Dog, Funeral Suits
When Dublin/Limerick band Funeral Suits take to the stage, the reception they receive from this crowd would not enthuse the more seasoned gig-goer. 听To their credit though, they ease in and maintain a humble demeanour, something that sets them aside from other bands of similar style that have came and gone. A tight rendition of 'Colour Fader' is an early stand out - hopefully inspiring a few of us to check out the rather slick new video that accompanies it.

As things progress, instruments are swapped about the stage, changing the sound. Pre-programmed drum beats and synth lines give way to what resembles a considerably more 'indie' ensemble - introverted soundscapes to all out riffy indie is no mean feat within twenty minutes. It works.

But seems its Master and Dog this crowd are here to see, and why not? They are, after all, somewhat 'ambassadors' to this fair country - 'Long May You Reign' is the current accompaniment to the Northern Ireland tourist board television advertisements, though it feels they're keen to step out of that particular shadow. This is no twee singalong; Master and Dog have a potentially epic vibe and are clearly accomplished musicians. This being one of their final shows before a break to write and record their second album, it seems tonight is all about one thing - giving the audience a taste of what's to come and leave them on tenterhooks, hungry for more.

Fantastically tone perfect three-way harmonies and engulfing instrumental breaks are what make this lot a great live band. Furthermore, we're excited as to what production style Master and Dog will go for on their next record, if they're to perfectly hone this style.

Of course 'Long May You Reign' turns up towards the back end of the set but if anything, it only acts as a fantastic bench mark - the start of a long and successful journey for a band who well deserve it.
