Gomez
Live Review
Gomez, Little Comets
By the time Little Comets take to the stage of the Spring and Airbreak, there is already a well bodied crowd patiently waiting to hear upbeat and enjoyable tunes from the Leeds based four piece.

Kicking the evening off with 'Adultery' from their newly released debut album In Search Of Elusive Little Comets, front man Robbie Cole's washed out vocals match perfectly with his brother Mark's thrashing guitar melodies. 'Joanna', 'Darling Alistair' and 'Tricolour' all follow with enthusiastic receptions.

Tambourines, pans and makeshift maracas hang from a clothes line across the stage for the band to use at their mercy, and this pretty much sums up their distinct and original sound. What can first appear to be a confused journey through their instruments, suddenly becomes a bright, sparkly indie remedy. With their springy chords, bouncy lyrics, and energetic performances, it's not hard to see why Little Comets have a worthy reputation.茂驴陆

Now with a more varied crowd, it's time for the Mercury Prize winning headliner Gomez to show Belfast some classic indie. Tom Gray's evocative voice, alongside Ian Ball and Ben Ottewell, leads a string of pretty harmonies and gutsy blues. 听

The band play an intimate set, showcasing songs from every album in their back catalogue. Treating the crowd to classics such as 'Options', 'Operate', and 'Equalize', it's definitely a strange atmosphere, but a great one none the less. Amidst deafening whistles, stomping, and applause from an enraptured audience, Gomez return to perform an encore featuring 'Xrays' and 'Get Miles'.

Gomez may have faded from the limelight in recent years to make way for new and younger acts, but their songs seem to have stood the test of time with their fans, and with that quality remaining entact, as well as their obvious ability to entertain, they will no doubt return in the near future with further offerings of well played and enjoyable gigs.
