Hairy...

The first of tonight's support acts is local favourite Ali Whitton, with his Broke Record Players supporting band. Acoustic folk-rock that's as lively as the vocals are depressing, the band show both talent and energy in a great display of Whitton's song-writing skills.

Described as 'one of the most exciting bands York has ever produced', AKP have a lot to answer for. Pop-rock played with passion and punch sets Fibbers into a fury of glow-stick action down at the front, with the bands light-hearted lyrics and friendly between song banter gaining them many more friends and fans in the room that night.

Step up hotly anticipated headliners The Hair, who take to the stage with a hero's welcome. After touring with the likes of The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, and The Pigeon Detectives, these guys certainly have the experience to pull off a tight set and work tonight's Fibbers crowd.

Labelled loosely as local, The Hair introduce themselves as being from York, Leeds, Hull and Durham - with four members, the figures add up. Their music though has a distinctly local feel, mostly thanks to Sam Robson's vocals and some subtle influences from Northern talents like Ian Brown and The Happy Mondays.

The band have been busy of late promoting their latest single 'Disco / Retro', which came out on the 23rd July, 2007 on Louder Than Bombs Records. One of the many highlights of their set at Fibbers tonight, the single's a great example of the bands kinetic sound with catchy electro riff and strutting vocals.

A solid line-up doesn't disappoint, with all three bands plus an enthusiastic audience making for a fun-filled and energetic night. The Hair might not be one hundred per cent from York, but from the reaction of tonight's fans, they're very much the city's band regardless.
