主播大秀 Radio 4's Food & Farming Awards 2002 were announced on Wednesday 27 November, as part of the Good Food Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Bee Wilson wins the Food Writer award as the person who has done the most to further understanding of food and agriculture for her work in New Statesman.

The Derek Cooper Award is given to Jack Winkler, the chair of Action and Information on Sugars, who has done outstanding work to improve food in Britain.

Highlights from the awards will be broadcast on 主播大秀 Radio 4's The Food Programme on Sunday 1 December at 12.30pm.

Thousands of nominations were received from listeners to Radio 4's The Food Programme and Farming Today, as well as readers of the 主播大秀 Good Food Magazine.

The judges had a difficult task picking just one winner for each category. John Henderson, farmer and chairman of the 主播大秀's Rural Affairs Advisory Committee said:

"As a farmer and a land owner I really feel these awards are of great value. They highlight the importance that food has in the wider sphere of life which people may not realise; such as in food education, feeding the elderly and infirm healthily, and how school children's diets may affect their behaviour.

"There is a large gap between people who try to produce food and those who buy it. The Food Programme has always tried to bridge this gap and is making a tremendous effort which is demonstrated in these awards."

Radio 4's You And Yours programme mounts a debate on 'The Future Of Food' broadcast from the Good Food Show which will be broadcast on Friday 29 November at 12 noon.

Four panellists take questions from the audience on issues such as the cost of organic food, GM safety, affordability of good quality food, and the viability of buying local produce.
