Britain
and America have yet to prove the case against Saddam, suggests
主播大秀 poll
In
a survey for 主播大秀 ONE's Iraq: Britain Decides programme,
60 per cent of respondents feel that the British and American Governments
have not yet proved that Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction.
However,
more than half - 56 per cent - now think that there is a link between
the Iraqi President's regime, Al-Qaeda and other associated terrorist
groups.
Also
in the findings, 50 per cent believe that the French and German
plan of trebling the number of UN inspectors is a "good plan",
while 44 per cent agree with Colin Powell's quote that they are
a "diversion and not a solution."

per cent of the sample feel the UK should not take part in a war
"with or without a fresh mandate from the United Nations."
40 per cent share the view that the country should only take part
in war with a fresh mandate, and 9 per cent without a further mandate
from the UN.
Asked
which statement applies to Prime Minister Tony Blair, 46 per cent
think that "he does what he believes to be right for Britain",
whereas 43 per cent feel that "he acts as the Foreign Minister
of the United States."
Three
quarters of the response - 75 per cent - are of the opinion that
a war against Iraq would damage relations with the Muslim community
in Britain, and 76 per cent don't believe that conflict would deter
terrorist groups from attacking the United States or Britain in
the future.
Furthermore,
nearly two thirds - 64 per cent - don't think that war would deter
other countries from developing weapons of mass destruction, and
over half - 54 per cent - believe that war would remove Saddam Hussein
from power.
In
another poll for the 主播大秀, the Newsround programme
gauged opinion among younger viewers and found that 82 per cent
of respondents were opposed to the war, and that the greatest worry
about "the thought of war" was terrorist attacks in the
UK - 50 per cent.

poll conducted for the 主播大秀 by ICM involved a random sample of 1,006
adults aged over 18.
Interviews
were by telephone and took place on the 10 and 11 February 2003.
Interviews
were conducted across the country and the results have been weighted
to the profile of all adults.
450
youngsters aged between 10 and 14 were questioned for the Newsround
poll.
