CHILDREN IN NEED
WALES

主播大秀 Children In Need gives out grants in Wales

主播大秀 Children In Need in Wales has given grants totalling 拢1.25 million to 73 schemes which help make life better for children across Wales.

From the smallest grant of 拢712, which will help start up an after-school club in the isolated community of Llwyngwril in Merionethshire, to the largest sum of 拢90,637, which will pay to fund a child-worker in a Women's Aid refuge in Aberystwyth, the money will make a great deal of difference to children's lives.

Last year's 主播大秀 Children In Need appeal raised a record 拢600,000 in Wales, after a glittering night of fun with celebrities including Rosie Ribbons, Steve Balsamo and a host of 主播大秀 Wales presenters led by Rhodri Williams, Owen Money and Kevin Hughes.

The 拢1.25 million is the first allocation of cash which will go to Wales. A further 100 applications are being considered with the results to be announced in August.

"This first allocation of grants for 2003 is a testimony to the ingenuity and commitment of voluntary organisations the length and breadth of Wales who are combating disadvantage," said Marc Phillips, national co-ordinator for 主播大秀 Children In need in Wales.

"From projects helping children cope with the trauma of domestic violence, to creative musical projects for children with disabilities, 主播大秀 Children In Need remains one of Wales's principal grant-givers.

"Such positive action by the charity is only possible because of the hugely generous way the people of Wales supported the appeal in November last year."

Grants for all-Wales groups include:

- 拢17,550 to Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin to fund nursery places for impoverished children.

- 拢16,200 for Cruse Cymru to train counsellors who will help bereaved children.

- 拢2,000 for the Welsh Kidney Patients Association to fund 20 children to compete in the 2003 British Transplant Games.

- 拢5,474 for Welsh National Opera to run community workshops across Wales for children with special needs.

- 拢11,300 for Live Music Now! Wales to enable professional musicians to work with children in communities across Wales.

- 拢22,686 for Voices of Care to help young people who are leaving or have left care homes receive counselling, recognition of their rights and other support.
