Presenter Q & As

Sue Barker

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã's Wimbledon presenter Sue Barker tells us why the Championships are so special to her.

Sue Barker • What makes Wimbledon unique?
The tradition is second-to-none. Although the club has undergone a lot of changes it still retains the magic I first felt when I walked through the gates for the very first time.

• How do you think Wimbledon compares to other Grand Slams?
It is still the best, not just because I'm British. The centre court is in a class of its own and the Championships boast such a proud history.

• What do you think the future holds for the grass-court game?
The future does not look bright and that is sad news for the sport. We need different challenges and I enjoy watching different styles and tactics.

• What are you looking forward to seeing during this year's tournament?
The Hewitt – Agassi duel for supremacy, the women's game is looking so competitive now, and what will happen to Tim?

• What new talent should we be watching out for this year?
So many new faces in the women's.

• What are your predictions for the men's and women's singles finals this year?
Agassi and Clijsters both would be good for the game. An old favourite and a bright young talent, although Hewitt and Clijsters would be cute too.

• Who would you like to see win the men's and women's singles finals this year?
Tim – that would make my summer!

• Who is your all-time favourite male tennis hero and why?
Tough one as there's so many… but Borg. I was privileged to witness all of his wins. The ice cool Swede was a joy to watch and he did so much to raise the profile of the sport. A true champion through and through.

• Who is you all-time favourite female tennis hero and why?
Billie Jean King. The greatest competitor, and the driving force behind women's tennis. It would not be in as good shape today without her. Few would have had her commitment.

• What was your all-time favourite final and why?
Ivanisevic and Rafter… and you know why? It was the final that had everything and more – a day I will never forget.

• Who would play in your fantasy Wimbledon final?
No idea – I prefer reality.

• Do you have a favourite Wimbledon moment? If so, what is it?
The parade of Champions. It was so emotional.

• How do you cope with presenting when rain stops play?
Surround myself with great guests like John McEnroe. And, always keep viewers informed as the weather can change in minutes.

• What does Wimbledon mean to you?
My favourite two weeks of the year, always has been and always will be, wherever I am.

John Inverdale

Rounding up the action each day on Today at Wimbledon, presenter John Inverdale tells of his favourite moments from SW19.

John Inverdale• What makes Wimbledon unique?
The grass courts.

• How do you think Wimbledon compares to other Grand Slams?
Can I confess to loving Roland Garros [The French Open] as much?! I think it might be the wine…

• What do you think the future holds for the grass-court game?
So long as a financially viable roof system is developed, it's secure.

• What are you looking forward to seeing during this year's tournament?
A British woman still in the competition in the second week.

• What new talent should we be watching out for this year?
Not new, but Roddick could be the star.

• What are your predictions for the men's and women's singles finals this year?
Andre Agassi and Kim Clijsters.

• Who would you like to see win the men's and women's singles finals this year?
Tim Henman and Justine Henin.

• Who is your all-time favourite male tennis hero and why?
Nastase, because he didn't give a damn.

• Who is you all-time favourite female tennis hero and why?
Margaret Court, because she was the best when I still played.

• What was your all-time favourite final?
Smith v Nastase

• Who would play in your fantasy Wimbledon final?
Panatta against McEnroe.

• Do you have a favourite Wimbledon moment? If so, what is it?
Borg v Gerulaitis, Semi-Final 1977 because of the unbearable tension.

• How do you cope with presenting when rain stops play?
Carry on talking gibberish.

• What does Wimbledon mean to you?
Queuing to get in as a schoolboy – and now getting paid to be there!
