Ö÷²¥´óÐã to capture the magic of African Nations Cup in more languages


The Ö÷²¥´óÐã World Service will broadcast the magic, action and energy of the African Nations Cup in more languages than ever before including Arabic, English, French, Hausa, Somali and Swahili.


The tournament kicks off in Tunisia on 24 January and the World Service will have up-to-the-minute reports, interviews and expert analysis plus live broadcasts of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals in English and French.


The Ö÷²¥´óÐã World Service in English will provide coverage in news bulletins and Sports Round Up virtually every hour of each day.


There will also be full weekly coverage in World Football as well as live commentary and updates in Sportsworld and Sunday Sportsworld.


Ö÷²¥´óÐã Commentator Martin Davies says: "We are delighted to be able to offer multilingual coverage of the continent's number one football contest. We know millions will be tuning in to this exciting competition."


Each day the Ö÷²¥´óÐã African sports programmes in English, Network Africa and Focus on Africa, will be reporting from the games.


Fast Track will have weekly detailed updates on Mondays and Fridays throughout the games and a special interactive edition on 6 February at 04.32 and 18.32 (GMT).


For the first time listeners will be able to text their views on the competition as it unfolds to: +44 77 86 20 20 08.


The final will feature in Sportsworld on 14 February at 14.00 (GMT). Presenter Russell Fuller will bring the build-up and full excitement of the game live from the Rades Stadium in Tunisia.


He will be joined in the commentary box by Martin Davies, Richard Fleming and special guest Kalusha Bwalya Bwalya, who ten years ago captained the Zambian football team who finished runner-up in the African Nations Cup.


The Ö÷²¥´óÐã World Service African football website - - launched as a dedicated resource for fans of African football, will have minute-by-minute text coverage of all the games.


Visitors to the site will find tournament fixtures, profiles of the sixteen qualifying teams and a special feature on players with African roots around the globe.


also has a vibrant African Nations Cup wallchart and calendar featuring the images of African footballing stars including Jay Jay Okocha from Cameroon and Tony Mario Sylva from Senegal.


Adding excitement to the coverage are the politics and issues behind the cup.
