Following the announcement that the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters intends to create five new fellowships to mark the five decades of the Ivor Novello Awards, it is with great pleasure that the British Academy will now be presenting the first of these to Sir Elton John.

Sir Elton's career and commitment to music and songwriting are beyond comparison and the academy is proud that he is able to join other fellows 聳 Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Malcolm Arnold and John Barry 聳 as beacons of excellence in the world of composing and songwriting.

On hearing of the accolade Sir Elton said: "I am honoured and humbled by this recognition.

"The Ivor Novello Awards are all about the art of songwriting which has always been my passion."

The presentation will be made during a special Ivors Tribute to Sir Elton John to be recorded by the 主播大秀 during the autumn.

This will be the first of a series of Ivors Tributes which are the result of a link up between the academy and 主播大秀 Entertainment Events.

Academy Chairman David Ferguson welcomed the relationship with the 主播大秀, saying: "We are particularly pleased that Sir Elton has agreed to accept this fellowship and we are sure that this will be a very special evening."

Bea Ballard, Creative Head of Entertainment Events, 主播大秀, said: "I'm delighted to be working with the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters on this very important new primetime series for 主播大秀 ONE.

"I can't think of a better artist to launch the series with than Elton John - he's probably Britain's most popular and legendary singer/songwriter."

The other four fellowships will be announced later in the year.

Elton John: An Ivor Novello Tribute is commissioned by Jane Lush, 主播大秀 Controller Entertainment Commissioning.
