US election coverage on 主播大秀 World Service

主播大秀 World Service coverage of the United States election this week will provide a world view.


Continuous coverage on election night will include reports and analysis from Egypt and Israel to assess how people in the Middle East see the election.

In the US a team of correspondents will report on the build up to voting day and the election results.

Phil Harding, Director English Networks and News, said: "The Presidency of the United States is in a position of enormous power. Who holds the office affects not only Americans but also the rest of the world. This is an election the whole world is watching.

"Throughout the campaign and on election night, the 主播大秀 World Service will cover not only the debate and the results but will also examine how other nations see this election and how the world reacts to the outcome."

Highlights of daily election coverage include:

flagship news programmes Newshour (1300, 2000 GMT) and The World Today (0500, 0600, 2200 GMT) will be co-presented from Washington

Weekend coverage:

The Interview will feature George Soros, the big financial backer of the campaign to unseat George Bush (Saturday 30 October, 2232 GMT; Sunday 31 October, 0632 GMT)

Assignment looks at how Arnold Schwarzenegger has fared during a year in office as Californian Governor (Saturday 30 October, 1006, 1306 GMT)

America Votes, a global phone-in hosted from Miami, will bring together opinions from around the world (Sunday 31 October, 1400-1500, 1800-1900 GMT)

Election night coverage:

Continuous coverage starts on Tuesday 2 November at 2200 GMT and runs until 1500 GMT the following afternoon


The World Today will broadcast results and reaction through the night from 2200 GMT on Tuesday 2 November

presenters Robin Lustig, Clare Bolderson, Ritula Shah and Dan Damon will report from Washington and key US states

as ballot papers are counted in the US, correspondents Magdi Abdelhadi in Cairo and Lucy Williamson in Jerusalem will assess reaction in Egypt and Israel


Newshour presents a two-hour election round-up from Washington on Wednesday 3 November from 1200 to 1400 GMT followed by a special edition of the interactive phone-in programme Talking Point hosted by Robin Lustig
