A themed week of news reports and programmes exploring one of the world's most dynamic countries begins on 7 March in China Week.

Adrian Van Klaveren, Deputy Director, 主播大秀 News, says: "China is changing fast and opening up, so this week of special output gives us a chance to reflect on what's happening and what it means for the world.

"We will be reporting from many different parts of the country with live programmes, discussions and insights into what life in China in 2005 is really like.

"It should be a memorable week's programming for anyone who wants to understand China better."

Question Time (主播大秀 ONE) will be broadcast from Shanghai on 10 March.

David Dimbleby will be in the chair as usual and the panel and audience will be the first to experience the unique cut and thrust of a Question Time debate in China.

David Dimbleby said: "It's a breakthrough. To have a programme from China with known critics of the Chinese Government on the panel is something I never thought would happen.

"Mounting such a democratic programme in a country that hasn't practiced democracy is a big challenge and should be riveting to watch."

For 主播大秀 Breakfast (主播大秀 ONE & News 24) Declan Curry will report from the new workshop of the world.

Rupert Wingfield Hayes journeys across China east to west by road and boat in a series of special reports for the 主播大秀 ONE Six and Ten O'Clock News bulletins that explore democracy and human rights.

On 主播大秀 News 24 and 主播大秀 World, China Live! with Carrie Gracie will present two themed days of programming, focussing on the economy and the emerging culture and politics of China.

News 24 will present a further day of coverage looking at the Chinese community in the UK including a report on the Falun Gong religion.

On Newsnight (主播大秀 TWO) Susan Watts reports on the Chinese dilemma and asks how a fast growing carbon economy can limit its environmental impact.

Paul Mason tells the story of economic growth and China's emerging middle and upper classes through the eyes of those working in Tianjin at a fish restaurant and market.

Mason also stays in Tianjin - China's third biggest city - to look at the process of political reform.

On 主播大秀 FOUR, the life of a Chinese teenager and the pressures she faces are revealed in Teenage Boot Camp.

In The World Tonight (主播大秀 Radio 4) Robin Lustig and Jonty Bloom take an economic journey across China.

The programme will explore the unique Chinese characteristics of socialism and the Chinese diaspora.

The World Tonight will also profile some of the most influential Chinese figures as well as students, migrant workers and businessmen.

Also on Radio 4, Nice Work looks at employment trends in China.

World Business Report on Radio 4 will report on the rise of Huawei Technologies, which is emerging as a competitor to Cisco Systems, and from the privately funded city of Wenzhou.

On 主播大秀 Radio Five Live, Julian Worricker and his team hope to broadcast from two schools that are twinned or partnered with schools in Britain.

In Shanghai they will be at a sports academy and in Chongqing at a primary school with more than a thousand children.

In both cities, the team will report more widely on the communities the schools serve.

The 主播大秀 World Service will feature a full week of programming from China including Outlook, Talking Point and World Business Report.

bbc.co.uk will bring detailed background on many of the reports making up China Week including the usual tie ups with Talking Point on World Service and a discussion of Rupert Wingfield Hayes journey through the country.
