Rise and "Shane" with Radio Derby

Shane O'Connor is taking over the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Derby Breakfast Show in the new time-slot of 7 to 10 from Monday 11 June.

Ìý

Listeners to the station are promised a fresh, sharp and amusing sound to help them start their day in the right way.

Ìý

As well as the regular local news and sport updates, weather and travel reports that listeners expect, the new look Breakfast Show will contain some of the features that helped make Shane's mid-morning show on Radio Derby so successful.

Ìý

Listeners will be able to wake up with a smile as Shane delivers it all in his own unique style of humour and outlook on life.

Ìý

Shane joined Radio Derby in 2002, having begun his radio career on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã WM Late Show. He then worked on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã WM Breakfast Show alongside presenter Paul Franks.

Ìý

The on-air chemistry between the two was such that the show went on to record the highest ever Breakfast Show Rajar (Radio Audience Joint Research) figures in the history of the station.

Ìý

Shane says about the new show: "I'm really excited about the new challenge. 'Would you like to wake up with me?' is a line I've been using for years – now hopefully I'll get slapped less often!"

Ìý

Simon Cornes, Managing Editor, Radio Derby, says: "Nobody sleeps when Shane's on so it makes perfect sense for him to take over the Breakfast Show. The new programme will have all the news and information that listeners expect along with added Shane appeal. One thing it won't be is dull."

Ìý

Other changes to the revamped Radio Derby schedule see Andy Potter present a new early show, starting at 5am.

Ìý

Aleena Naylor takes over the new look mid-morning show from 10am to 1pm before handing over to Alex Trelinski who begins his afternoon show an hour earlier at 1pm.

Ìý

Ross Fletcher's round-up of the day's news will also begin an hour earlier with a revamped show starting at 4pm.

Ìý

Shane O'Connor will continue to present his popular Saturday Breakfast Show on Radio Derby, with Sally Pepper presenting a new Saturday Morning Show between 9am and noon.

Ìý

The new line-up and schedule follow hot on the heels of Radio Derby's recent success at the prestigious Sony Radio Academy Awards where they scooped a Station of the Year Award.

Ìý

The recognition – in the 300,000 to one million listeners category – was for the station's service to the people of Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.

Ìý

Shane O'Connor will be available for photographs at 8.15am on Wednesday 30 May in Derby's Market Place, when passers-by will get a taste of what it is like waking up with Shane! Please contact Ö÷²¥´óÐã Birmingham Press Office for further details.
