The Strand: Ö÷²¥´óÐã World Service launches new arts show with stellar guest

Roger Moore, Toni Morrison, Candace Bushnell, Neil Gaiman and Curtis Sittenfeld will appear on Ö÷²¥´óÐã World Service's brand-new daily arts and entertainment show, The Strand, during the launch week from Monday 27 October.

Presented by Harriett Gilbert and Mark Coles, the half-hour programme takes listeners on a worldwide journey through arts, culture and entertainment.

According to the programme-makers, "Nothing creative is out of bounds" – and The Strand will bring the best, newest and most exciting creative enterprises to listeners around the world.

Novelist Harriett Gilbert has been presenting arts programmes on Ö÷²¥´óÐã World Service for over 10 years.
Ìý
She will present the Monday and Friday editions of The Strand, as well as a new hour-long version of another Ö÷²¥´óÐã World Service programme, World Book Club, on the first weekend of every month.

Harriett, who also teaches creative writing at London's City University, says: "I'm delighted to be presenting The Strand.
Ìý
"As a daily programme, it will be a great position to reveal, explore and debate developments as they happen in the world of the arts – including, of course, the world of literature."
Ìý
Mark Coles, an award-winning broadcaster and acclaimed music journalist, will present the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday editions of The Strand as well as a special hour-long Saturday compilation.

Mark – who has played Jimi Hendrix's guitar and was once locked in a cage with Yoko Ono – has interviewed some of the world's top writers.

He says: "We'll provide our audience with a thoroughly entertaining, truly global guide to the arts.

"We'll be featuring some of the world's most famous and creative people and be offering unique insights into arts events and consumption of culture around the world."

The Strand will be broadcast at 19.30 GMT and will be available in audio online, via bbcworldservice.com.
